Embarrassing Moments When Technology Failed

Steve Jobs suffered embarrassment when his technology failed while unveiling the company's iPhone 4 in June 2010. At his presentation in San Francisco Mr Jobs had trouble connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi on several occasions. It failed when he tried to show how clear pictures would appear on the new screen and the problem occurred again later when he attempted to show the audience how video calling would work on the device. He then urged more than 500 journalists in the room to turn off…See More

Petition to Change Privacy Laws to Allow BC Educators to Use Web 2.0 Tools

I learned about the cloud computing guidelines, restrictions, for BC educators from the Open Practices CEET Meet. I was shocked to learn that BC eduactors are not allowed to use open source tools that have storage outside of Canada. Other provinces are active users of Google Apps and other Web 2.0 Cloud services. The BC legislation was introduced by the NDP years ago. With an election coming up, some are hoping that this will be…See More

"All three of the industry leading commercial tools (Adobe Captivate, Lectora, and Articulate) build upon PowerPoint templates as a base. You may think why would they use presentation software? It is because lessons are forcibly divided into single…"

Can you help me choose a course authoring tool?

In our organization we are using Moodle as our online learning platform. We want to keep our course development low cost, easy to update, and where we don’t require outsourcing and the  latest and greatest computers.  Colleagues of ours are currently using Lectura as an industry standard. Others are using Adobe Captivate and some are using Articulate Studio. We are considering one of these options but they are expensive. We want to make sure that we choose something that best suits our…See More
